Hip Flask

From 2003 onward, Semic S.A. published Hip Flask, a series defined by the striking, hyper-detailed painted artwork of José Ladrönn and the collaborative writing of Joe Casey, Richard Starkings, and Studio Semic. The series centers on a genetically engineered, anthropomorphic hippopotamus navigating a gritty, futuristic world, blending noir sensibilities with superhero tropes. Though it began with only a single issue, its distinctive visual style and unconventional premise have made it a memorable cult entry in early-2000s independent comics.
