Hinz & Kunz

Bernd Pfarr and Michael Gutmann co-created this short-lived, nine-issue series for Volksverlag from 1979 to 1981. Hinz & Kunz stands as a key early example of the German alternative comics scene, blending a deadpan, absurdist sensibility with the publisher's countercultural roots. Its significance lies in how Pfarr and Gutmann’s distinctive, often surreal humor helped pave the way for a more sophisticated, adult comic readership in West Germany.
