About the series
From 1981 to 2008, Heavy Metal Special Editions served as a recurring showcase for the magazine's signature blend of adult-oriented fantasy and science fiction, packing 50 issues with a mix of short stories and longer serials. Anchored by the recurring presence of the barbarian adventurer Den, these oversized specials drew heavily on the talents of European masters like Moebius and Simon Bisley, alongside contributions from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman and regular artist/writer Tayyar Ozkan. A vital companion to the main Heavy Metal magazine, this series offered a concentrated dose of the surreal, erotic, and psychedelic comics that defined the publisher's legacy.
