About the series
George Gately’s Heathcliff launched in 1976 from Grosset and Dunlap as a two-issue comic series starring the feisty orange tabby already famous from newspaper strips. Gately, the character’s creator, handled art duties throughout this brief but punchy run, which captured the cat’s signature mischief and rivalry with neighborhood dogs. While short-lived, the series cemented Heathcliff’s transition from daily panels to comic-book form, offering fans a concentrated dose of his slapstick adventures.
