Harald le Viking

In the long-running Belgian series Harald le Viking (1958–1980), the husband-and-wife team of Fred and Liliane Funcken brought a meticulously researched, historically grounded vision of the Viking age to life for Le Lombard. Over the course of a single, extended narrative spanning decades, the Funckens' detailed artwork and adventurous storytelling followed the titular Norseman through raids, exploration, and the clash of cultures. Though it produced only one collected volume, the series stands as a distinctive European comic milestone, celebrated for its archaeological authenticity and the Funckens' singular, collaborative craftsmanship.
