Hakke Hakkespett

From 1963 to 1967, the Norwegian comic series Hakke Hakkespett brought the antics of the titular woodpecker and his friends—including Hanne, Hans, Pingo Pingvin, Andy Panda, and Pelle Klukk—to readers across 29 issues. Published by a trio of Norwegian houses (Serieforlaget, Se-Bladene, and Stabenfeldt), the series relied on the artwork of American talents John Carey, Bill Weaver, and Phil De Lara to translate these familiar animal characters into a distinctly local comic. While the writer credits remain unclear, the series stands as a charming example of mid-century European licensing, offering a Nordic window into the broader world of funny-animal comics.
