About the series
Junji Ito’s Gyo (2003–2004) is a two-issue horror manga from Viz that twists the natural world into a grotesque, mechanized nightmare. Written and illustrated by Ito, with adaptation by Yuji Oniki and lettering by Steve Dutro and Izumi Evers, this series follows an inexplicable plague of fish sprouting metallic legs and crawling ashore, dragging a suffocating, rotting stench with them. It’s a visceral, claustrophobic descent into body horror and ecological dread, showcasing Ito’s signature ability to make the mundane terrifying.
