Grateful Dead Comix

Between 1993 and the present, Kitchen Sink Press released two issues of Grateful Dead Comix, a short-lived series that translated the iconic band’s music and ethos into comic form. Guided by frequent writers James Vance and lyricist Robert Hunter, and illustrated by artists including Dan Burr, Kate Worley, and Reed Waller, the series wove original stories inspired by the Grateful Dead’s songs and counterculture spirit. Though brief, it stands as a unique artifact of the 1990s, capturing the band’s collaborative, improvisational energy through sequential art.
