Fantom: Siva ambra

In the late 1930s, the Croatian newspaper Hrvatski dnevnik serialized Fantom: Siva ambra over nine issues, a dark, atmospheric adventure strip that stands as an early European example of the masked vigilante archetype. The series follows a mysterious, phantom-like protagonist whose name translates to "Gray Amber," blending pulp intrigue with a distinctly Central European sensibility. Though its run was brief, the strip is notable for its shadowy, expressionistic art and its place in the pre-war comic landscape of Yugoslavia. It remains a fascinating artifact for scholars of early European comics and the transnational spread of the crime-fighting antihero.
