Fantask

In 1969, the French publisher Editions Lug launched Fantask, a short-lived but pivotal series that brought Marvel’s cosmic and street-level heroes to European readers. Translating and reprinting stories by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, John Buscema, and Steve Ditko, the seven-issue run introduced French audiences to L’Araignée (Spider-Man) and Le Surfer d’Argent (Silver Surfer), alongside the Fantastic Four’s Johnny Storm, Jane Storm, La Chose, and Ben Grimm. Though brief, Fantask stands as a key artifact of Marvel’s early international expansion, showcasing the raw energy of the Silver Age through a distinctly French lens.
