The long-running Filipino anthology Extra Komiks debuted in 1953 under Bulaklak Publications, its 12-issue run anchored by the prolific artistry of Alfredo P. Alcala, whose moody, detailed linework defined the series' visual identity. A cornerstone of the country's komiks industry, it showcased a rotating cast of local heroes and adventures, reflecting the era's pulp sensibilities while establishing a template for the medium's golden age in the Philippines.
