El Gato Negro

Richard Dominguez’s El Gato Negro (1993–1997) is a four-issue independent series from Azteca Publications, following the adventures of a Latino costumed hero. Dominguez wrote and drew the entire run, crafting a stylish, pulp-inflected vigilante story that stands as a landmark for minority representation in 1990s comics. Its significance lies in being one of the first mainstream-style superhero titles to center a Mexican-American protagonist, paving the way for greater diversity in the medium.
