About the series
In the early 1990s, Dutch artist Marcel Ruijters launched the short-lived, three-issue series Dr. Molotow for the Monguzzi imprint. A singular, unclassifiable work of European alternative comics, the series follows the surreal, often grotesque adventures of its titular anti-hero across a landscape of violent absurdity. Ruijters’ dense, expressive black-and-white art and anarchic storytelling made Dr. Molotow a cult touchstone for fans of underground and avant-garde comics. Its brief run remains a striking artifact of the era’s boundary-pushing independent publishing.
