About the series
Julie Doucet’s Dirty Plotte ran for twelve issues from 1991 to 1998, published by Drawn & Quarterly. This raw, autobiographical comic series is a cornerstone of alternative comix, with Doucet’s frenetic, confessional art and writing capturing the messy, surreal, and often brutally honest experiences of a young woman in the 1990s. Co-writer Brian S. contributed to the series, but it’s Doucet’s singular, unflinching voice—equal parts punk energy and dreamlike horror—that made it a defining work of its era.
