Dirty Plotte

Julie Doucet’s Dirty Plotte (1988–1989) is a landmark twelve-issue comic series from the Montreal underground, written and drawn entirely by Doucet herself. Known for its raw, confessional style and unflinching black-and-white art, the series chronicles the messy, surreal, and often grotesque realities of young womanhood, sexuality, and daily life. Doucet’s singular voice—combining deadpan humor, bodily honesty, and a punk DIY ethos—made Dirty Plotte a foundational work of alternative comics, cementing her reputation as one of the most influential cartoonists of her generation.
