Der Schwarze Korsar

In the late 1980s, German publisher Virt revived the swashbuckling spirit of Emilio Salgari’s classic pirate tales with Der Schwarze Korsar, a ten-issue series that ran from 1987 to 1990. Helmed by artist and writer Günter "Günter" Mayer, this comic adaptation followed the Black Corsair’s adventures across the Caribbean, blending historical adventure with the dramatic visuals of European comics. Though a relatively short run, the series stands as a notable German-language interpretation of Salgari’s work, bringing a beloved literary rogue to a new generation of readers.
