In the early 1990s, Bastei Verlag brought the supernatural Western anti-hero Der Geisterreiter to German readers, adapting the fiery, skull-faced spirit of vengeance for a 15-issue run. This series, most frequently written by Howard Mackie and illustrated by Javier Saltares, Mark Texeira, and Jim Lee, captured the gritty, mystical tone of the era’s American comics while establishing a distinct presence in the German market.
