Der Götz von Berlichingen

In the aftermath of World War I, the Viennese publisher Wiener Zeitungsgesellschaft m. b. H. launched this 102-issue comic series (1919–1925) based on the legendary 16th-century German knight Götz von Berlichingen. A serialized adventure strip rooted in historical folklore, it was a notable early example of a European comic adapting a folk hero for a newspaper audience.
