About the series
A single, lovingly produced issue from 1975, De wonderlijke lotgevallen van Jubal Jubelslee is a Dutch-language comic published by Boelen that bridges two centuries of cartooning. The book pairs a script by the celebrated Dutch poet and critic Gerrit Komrij with the artwork of Rodolphe Töpffer, the 19th-century Swiss pioneer widely considered the father of the modern comic strip. By having Komrij write new text for Töpffer's classic, pre-existing illustrations, the series offers a unique, playful homage to the very origins of sequential art.
