De maagd en de neger

From 2009 onward, the Dutch-language graphic novel De maagd en de neger (published by Oog & Blik and De Bezige Bij) is a single-issue work by writer-artist Judith Vanistendael. The story explores a charged, intimate relationship across cultural and racial lines, rendered in Vanistendael's expressive, watercolor-infused style. This debut marks her early foray into long-form comics, establishing a sensitive voice in European graphic fiction.
