Curse of the Spawn

About the series
In the late 1990s, Image Comics’ Curse of the Spawn spun off from the flagship Spawn series to explore the darker corners of Al Simmons’ world. Published by Infinity Verlag, this 14-issue run focused on a new Hellspawn—a cursed figure whose path diverged from the main series’ antihero, delving into themes of damnation and redemption. While creator Todd McFarlane oversaw the universe, the series is most associated with writer Alan McElroy and artists like Dwayne Turner, who brought a grim, visceral style to these standalone horror-tinged tales. It matters as an early expansion of the Spawn mythos, offering a more focused, supernatural horror narrative away from the main title’s sprawling cast.
