About the series
In 2017, the Portuguese publisher Arte de Autor revived the globe-trotting adventures of Corto Maltese, the iconic sailor created by Hugo Pratt, for a new series of original stories. Written primarily by Juan Díaz Canales and illustrated by Rubén Pellejero, whose expressive linework honors Pratt's legacy, the series continues the character's early 20th-century exploits with fresh, self-contained narratives. With contributions from writers like Jorge Colaço and Ricardo Pereira, this four-issue run matters as a respectful, modern continuation of a classic European comic tradition, proving that Corto’s romantic, anti-heroic spirit still resonates today.
