About the series
From 1985 to 1989, Casterman published 22 issues of Corto Maltese, a companion series that expanded the world of Hugo Pratt’s iconic sailor beyond his original adventures. Primarily written by Jean-Paul Mougin and Michel Le Bris, this title paired Corto Maltese with the globetrotting adventurer Dieter Lumpen, using photography as a distinctive visual medium. While the series explored new stories and settings, it remained rooted in the romantic, wanderlust-driven spirit of Pratt’s creation, offering a unique, photo-illustrated take on classic comic adventure.
