Chlorophyl

In the mid-1950s, Raymond Macherot created Chlorophyl, a whimsical, three-issue series from Le Lombard that follows the adventures of a brave squirrel in a forest community. Macherot, who both wrote and drew the strip, infused it with a gentle, anthropomorphic charm that distinguished it from other animal comics of the era. Though brief, this series is remembered as a foundational work of Belgian comics, showcasing Macherot’s signature blend of humor and pastoral adventure before he went on to create Sibylline.
