Channel Zero

In the late 1990s, writer and artist Brian Wood launched Channel Zero from the indie publisher AiT/Planet Lar, a stark, prescient cyberpunk series that predicted the rise of corporate media control and state surveillance. The story follows a rogue activist broadcasting illegal content through a hacked public access network, fighting a war of information in a near-future New York City. Wood’s raw, high-contrast art and dense, politically charged storytelling made this a foundational work of early 2000s alt-comics, cementing his reputation as a sharp voice on media and resistance. Though its initial run was brief, Channel Zero remains a cult touchstone for its unflinching, ahead-of-its-time critique of a hyper-mediated world.
