Captain Marvel Jr.
Cleland · 1947–1952 · 74 issues
About the series
In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Fawcett Publications gave the young sidekick of the original Captain Marvel his own title, Captain Marvel Jr. (1947–1952), a 74-issue series that expanded the Marvel Family universe. Most frequently written by Otto Binder and Bill Woolfolk, and illustrated by a trio of distinctive talents—Kurt Schaffenberger, Bud Thompson, and Mac Raboy—the series followed the adventures of teen hero Freddy Freeman, who could transform into the super-powered Captain Marvel Jr. by saying "Captain Marvel." It stands as a key part of the Golden Age Fawcett line, showcasing the lighter, family-friendly superheroics that defined the era before the company's legal battles with DC Comics.
