About the series
Roy Crane’s Captain Easy began its comic strip run in 1939, spinning off from his earlier Wash Tubbs to give the strong, silent soldier his own solo adventures. Published by the Newspaper Enterprise Association, the series blended exotic globe-trotting with Crane’s signature dynamic, cartoonish art and fast-paced storytelling. As both writer and artist, Crane defined the strip’s lighthearted, adventurous tone for decades, making it a foundational example of the adventure comic strip. Its enduring appeal lies in Crane’s masterful, expressive linework and the timeless thrill of a hero facing danger with a grin.
