About the series
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, French publisher Semic brought a unique, darkly humorous vision to newsstands with Bobo, a 28-issue series that blended anthropomorphic animal characters with biting social satire. The series was the brainchild of artist and writer Philippe Vandooren, whose crisp, expressive linework and deadpan storytelling gave the strip its distinctive tone. Set in a quirky, often surreal world, Bobo follows its titular bear through misadventures that skewer bureaucracy, consumerism, and the absurdities of everyday life. A cult favorite among European comic readers, it stands as a sharp, understated gem of the Franco-Belgian tradition.
