Bluey and Curley

For over eight decades, the Australian newspaper strip Bluey and Curley has chronicled the misadventures of a pair of hapless soldiers in the AIF, first appearing in The Herald in 1941. Created by Alex Gurney for The Herald and Weekly Times Limited, this long-running comic offered a distinctly Australian blend of wartime humor and resilience, following its two protagonists from the battlefields of World War II into peacetime. Though its original newspaper run was collected into just nine issues, the strip's enduring legacy lies in its status as a foundational work of Aussie comic art, capturing the national character through its laconic, often absurd comedy.
