Blast!

A short-lived but eclectic anthology series from John Brown Publishing, Blast! (1991–present, 7 issues) showcased a mix of dark humor and science fiction, most notably featuring Paul Chadwick's thoughtful, super-strong Concrete and Michael T. Gilbert's pulp-inspired adventurer Mr. Monster. Anchored by contributions from Warren Ellis and the distinctive art of D'Israeli and William Messner-Loebs, the series offered a snapshot of early-'90s British and American indie sensibilities. Its brief run remains a curious footnote for fans of these creators' formative work.
