Blacksad

Set in a gritty, anthropomorphic 1950s America, Blacksad follows the hard-boiled private eye John Blacksad through noir-tinged mysteries of corruption and murder. Spanish creators Juan Díaz Canales and Juanjo Guarnido have produced only seven issues since 2000, each a lush, painterly graphic novel that elevates the detective genre with stunning watercolor art and morally complex storytelling. Published by Dargaud Benelux, the series is celebrated for its cinematic atmosphere and its use of animal characters to explore human nature.
