During its brief run from 1949 to 1950, Bell Features’ Blackhawk delivered nine issues of high-flying wartime adventure, focusing on the elite multinational squadron led by the stoic Blackhawk. The series is most closely associated with writer Bill Woolfolk and a trio of distinctive artists—Reed Crandall, Bill Quackenbush, and Bill Ward—whose dynamic, gritty visuals defined the team’s aerial exploits. Though short-lived, this Canadian-published title captured the post-war appetite for pulpy, patriotic heroism, standing as a lesser-known but visually striking chapter in the Blackhawk legacy.
