About the series
From 2009 to 2014, Kanoko Sakurakoji's Black Bird ran for 18 issues under Viz Media, weaving a supernatural shojo romance about a high school girl who can see demons and the powerful tengu lord who vows to protect—and claim—her. Sakurakoji handled both writing and art, with translation support from JN Productions and additional art by Gia Cam Luc. The series stands out for its lush, detailed artwork and its intense, possessive love story set against a richly imagined world of Japanese folklore and demon politics.
