In a world where only Black people have superpowers, Black (2016–2017) from Black Mask Studios reimagines the superhero genre as a potent allegory for race and power. Written by Kwanza Osajyefo with art by Jamal Igle and Steven Walker, the six-issue series follows a young man who discovers his abilities and the dangerous, systemic forces that seek to control or exploit them. It’s a thought-provoking, socially charged take on the cape-and-mask tradition that centers Black identity and the real-world implications of being gifted in a society built on inequality.
