Nooit Gedacht [Nooitgedacht] · 1970–1972 · 20 issues
About the series
From 1970 to 1972, Dutch publisher Nooit Gedacht presented Beroemde verhalen in beeld, a 20-issue comic series that adapted classic literature into sequential art. Translating works by Alexandre Dumas and Gustave Flaubert, among others, the series brought timeless stories to a new visual medium. Artists Giovanni Cianti and Mara Della Torre were central to the project, crafting detailed, atmospheric panels that made these literary masterpieces accessible to a broad audience. This short-lived but ambitious series stands as a distinctive European effort to bridge the gap between high literature and popular comics.
