Bel Ami

A five-issue run from Normic Press, Bel Ami (1964–1965) adapted Guy de Maupassant's classic novel into a painted comic book format. The series follows the ambitious and manipulative Georges Duroy as he climbs the social ladder in 19th-century Paris through a series of romantic and political entanglements. Though the artist is not credited, the lush, painterly style distinguishes this forgotten title as a unique, early example of a literary adaptation in the comic medium.
