About the series
In the late 1970s, Western Publishing gave the iconic Army slacker Beetle Bailey his own comic book series, a 13-issue run that brought Mort Walker's beloved newspaper strip to a new format. Under the steady hand of writer Bob Gustafson, with art from a team including Sal Buscema and Ernie Colón, the series translated the daily gags of Camp Swampy into punchy, self-contained adventures. While it didn't reinvent the character, this short-lived title offered a fresh, colorful dose of military mischief for fans who couldn't get enough of Beetle, Sarge, and the gang.
