About the series
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Danish publisher Winthers Forlag brought the beloved, honey-loving bear Bamse to the monthly comic-book format, spinning 87 issues of gentle, family-friendly adventure. Created by cartoonist Rune Andréasson, Bamse had already charmed Swedish readers for years, and this Danish series introduced the character's kind-hearted strength and his friends—like the tiny, clever Skalman—to a new audience. While never reaching the same iconic status as in Sweden, the series remains a fondly remembered piece of Scandinavian comics history, offering wholesome escapism during its eight-year run.
