Set in the Ivory Coast during the 1970s, Aya is a warmly humorous slice-of-life series from Drawn & Quarterly that follows the everyday adventures of a young woman in Yopougon. Written by Marguerite Abouet, with art by Clément Oubrerie, the three-issue run (2007–2009) offers a vibrant, rarely seen portrait of West African urban life, steering clear of tragedy to celebrate community, family, and youthful ambition.
