Army and Navy Comics

During its brief 1941–1942 run from Street & Smith, Army and Navy Comics offered a wartime mix of military adventures and superheroics, anchored by the pulp-inflected writing of Theodore Sturgeon and bold artwork from George Tuska and Jack Binder. The series captured the patriotic fervor of the era, spotlighting characters like the costumed crusader The Black Terror alongside more grounded soldier and sailor tales. Though it lasted only five issues, it remains a snapshot of early 1940s comics, showcasing Sturgeon’s early genre work before his celebrated science-fiction career.
