Alley Oop

A short-lived, four-issue series from Better Publications of Canada, Alley Oop (1948–1949) adapted the long-running newspaper caveman comic strip into a comic book format. The series is most notable for its covers by the prolific Alex Schomburg, credited as A. S., whose dynamic, adventure-filled artwork gave the prehistoric hero a vibrant, pulpy presence. Though brief, this Canadian-published run represents a unique, regional attempt to bring a beloved syndicated character to the newsstand.
