About the series

In the immediate aftermath of World War II, the Italian anthology series Albo Uragano (1945–1947) emerged as a vital bridge between pre-war adventure comics and a new, more sophisticated era. Published by Albi Uragano, its 20 issues featured a distinctive blend of swashbuckling yarns and literary adaptations, most notably the work of writer Alberto Ongaro and artist Hugo Pratt, who would later become legends of European comics. The series also saw significant contributions from Mario Faustinelli and even adapted stories by Edgar Allan Poe, giving it a uniquely dark and literate edge. Albo Uragano matters as a foundational showcase for the early talents who would redefine Italian comics in the postwar period.
