About the series

A Dutch espionage spoof created by Martin Lodewijk, Agent 327 follows the deadpan, trench-coated secret agent Hendrik IJzerbroot (whose codename gives the series its title) through a series of globe-trotting, absurdly plotted adventures. Originally serialized in the Swedish comics magazine Serieförlaget in the 1980s, the series ran for only two issues from that publisher before continuing in Hemmets Journal. Lodewijk, both writer and artist, infuses the strip with a dry, satirical wit that parodies the conventions of classic spy thrillers, making it a cult favorite in European comics. Its blend of meticulous, ligne claire-inspired artwork and deadpan humor marks it as a distinctive, if brief, entry in the history of Dutch comics.
