Phantom Over Berlin
8 pp · war

A B-17 bomber crew witnesses an eerie glowing Mustang fighter joining the battle over Berlin—one that shouldn't be there, shot down in flames days earlier by a German jet. As the phantom aircraft defends the American bombers with uncanny precision, the crew must grapple with what they're seeing: a ghost of a fallen pilot, or something stranger still. The Germans, terrified by the apparition, begin to falter in their attacks as the mystery deepens in the night skies.

Drop Into Terror
4 pp · war

PFC Jim Mulloy drops into a hot landing zone consumed by fear while his fellow paratroopers seem battle-ready, and when enemy fire cuts down his squad, he's left alone and terrified in the clearing. Pinned down and convinced he's finished, Mulloy discovers reserves of courage he didn't know he had—and a truth about what real bravery looks like that his unit won't let him deny. "Drop Into Terror" is a taut, human look at combat in Vietnam that strips away the glamour and asks what fear really means when the bullets start flying.

The Underground War
3 pp · war

By 1952 in Korea, Chinese Communist forces have abandoned direct assaults in favor of a deadly new tactic—retreating into an elaborate network of mountain tunnels where conventional firepower proves useless. When American soldiers discover the enemy dug in deep underground, a platoon leader calls for two men with an unconventional but devastatingly effective weapon: flamethrowers. "The Underground War" traces how this brutal subterranean conflict unfolds when fire becomes the only answer to an invisible enemy.

The Ambush
8 pp · war

A soldier slips away from his unit to visit an Italian village where his family was born, only to stumble directly into a German ambush. Forced into the town's ancient Roman sewers, he discovers the mayor and local resistance fighters who reveal a devastating trap the Nazis have laid for the American advance—and together they devise a desperate plan to turn the tables. With the help of his newfound allies, he races to warn his outfit before they walk into the jaws of the German assault.
