Sue, a magic manikin, ventures through the woods where she encounters Sacony, a sad ordinary gnome whose name nobody can pronounce. The Wise Old Owl renames him Sam and magically provides him with woodland companions: a charming prince, a dragon, and a little unicorn whose footprints will always be purple. The issue concludes with Sue inviting her new friends to visit the store downtown to purchase Sacony separates, and includes colorful cut-out patterns of school and fall fashions for readers.
