"The Golden Scarab" follows characters Ali Pasha and Ahmed as they search for the Ben Hassi treasure while Miles and Nina escape from palace dungeons in pursuit. When the group comes under attack by Arab forces and a French Foreign Legion detachment, Miles discovers a fort that offers refuge, but the gates are closed and the garrison is vastly outnumbered. The legionaires mount a desperate defense against overwhelming odds, with a bugle call triggering a final charge that results in Miles being shot, leaving his fate uncertain as the story concludes.
