Peter Wheat and his friend Beetle face a water shortage crisis in the Wheat Kingdom caused by snow blocking the mountain streams for two seasons. When they discover clutching vines trapping them and encounter hostile mushroom creatures guarding a cave, they must fight to obtain a magical key that will unlock the cave door. Peter and Beetle ultimately succeed in retrieving the key from the North Wind itself, but their frozen state during this ordeal results in the North Wind spreading excessive snow across the countryside, bringing both resolution and new complications to the kingdom's crisis.
