Casey Ruggles

Casey Ruggles arrives in Big Bear Flat to find the mining town gripped by terror—a killer known only as the Whisperer has been murdering citizens and giving others an hour to flee before striking. Mistaken for the Whisperer himself because of his hoarse voice, Ruggles takes the sheriff's badge to investigate, only to uncover a suspect with a motive tied to the town's timber wealth. As Ruggles gathers evidence and prepares a confrontation, a young boy's observation about the killer's true target may hold the key to unmasking the murderer before another body reaches Boot Hill.
