Rod Hathaway, the Avenger, investigates robot murderers on Mars after receiving an emergency call, where he and his companion Teena discover the villain Gargoyle and rescue the beautiful slave girl Starling from being auctioned off. The story shifts to Earth as Rod uncovers a complex conspiracy: Spanish Revolutionists are financing a man named Magnus to smuggle war materials out of the country, and the murder of fellow operative Thomas Allen is connected to this scheme, involving the submarine Nautilus and its mysterious cargo operations.
