School Friend Annual 1959 is an anthology featuring multiple stories. "Elsa's Winning Line" follows a skier named Elsa who wins a race by twenty yards, but when competitor Bunty investigates suspicious ski tracks in the snow, she discovers evidence that Elsa cheated and finds a bundle hidden in a ravine that proves Elsa is a jewel thief. Another story, "Claudette," involves a character named Terry who attempts to solve a mystery surrounding a supposedly haunted abbey and an ornamental horse, uncovering a clever jewel theft scheme that implicates the suspicious Mrs. Denbigh. A third story features Katy Swift saddling a horse named Duke and setting off on a trail while children remain at a ranch-house, with Tommy spotting two mysterious hard-riding figures on horseback approaching across the desert landscape.
